CHI È HENRY DARGER?

L’artista Henry Darger (Chicago 1892-1973) è forse il massimo esponente dell’Art Brut/Outsider Art, l’arte teorizzata da Jean Dubuffet nel 1945 come pura, grezza, prodotta da persone non “contaminate” da filtri accademici e da cultura artistica (spesso con esperienze di internamento in manicomio o in carcere, o di isolamento fisico e psicologico) ma liberi di dare sfogo ad impulsi creativi quasi inconsapevoli e per questo che più concretamente si avvicinano alla vera arte.
Dopo aver trascorso gli anni dell’adolescenza internato in un istituto, Darger ha lavorato tutta la vita come uomo di fatica negli ospedali, ma alla sua morte nel suo appartamento sono stati trovati tesori letterari e artistici inestimabili: un incredibile romanzo-fiume di oltre 15.000 pagine, più molti altri scritti e circa 350 meravigliose e terribili opere grafiche oggi sparse in molti musei del mondo, tra cui il MoMA di New York e il MAM di Parigi.
Romanzo e opere grafiche illustrano un mondo fantastico in cui i bambini vengono schiavizzati dai terribili Glandeliniani, ma si ribellano e guidati dalle sette sorelle Vivian combattono per salvarsi dalla violenza e dalle torture.
